An apple a day keeps the flu away!

Apples are a rich source of vitamin C, which builds up the immune system. They also contain many other naturally occurring chemicals in addition to vitamin C, including antioxidants called Flavonoids and Polyphenols that are thought to protect against cancer.

This means that eating a small apple (100g) can provide you with an antioxidant effect equivalent to taking 1500mg of vitamin C tablet.

In a recent study Professor Chong Yong Lee, said: 'Some of the chemicals we found in apples are known to be anti-allergenic, some are anti-carcinogenic, anti-inflammatory and anti-viral. Now I have a reason to say an apple a day keeps the doctor away.'

So if you want those colds to stay away from you during those colder months eat an apple! The health benefits are way higher than taking vitamin supplements.

There is no denying that getting your vitamins from a healthy diet is the best way to stay healthy, however if your diet is a little on the healthy side then perhaps vitamins are beneficial for you. However, some sources and medical studies, actually claim that vitamin supplements are not good for us and can actually be harmful. We’re not sure about where we stand on that matter. Sounds like a topic that we’ll have to tackle at a later date!
