Endangered Gouldian Finch
BY EARTHFIRST
Once upon a time dazzling flocks of thousands of Gouldian Finch’s populated the tropical savannas of northern Australia. Now, sadly the entire population numbers less than 2,500 birds. Big changes in land management need to happen if these colourful creatures are to grow in numbers or even survive.
There are various reasons for their decreased numbers, one of the main reasons is that the particular grass which supplied then with the seeds that they rely on has been replaced with grazing land for yet more cattle. Another reason why we should cut down our beef intake!
